Cod Army and shots to strike

League Two expert Nick Hext is backing Fleetwood to beat local rivals Morecambe this Saturday afternoon.

Micky Mellon's Fleetwood can claim three points.

3pts Fleetwood to beat Morecambe at 7/5 (General).

1.5pts Aldershot to beat Bristol Rovers at 12/5 (bet365, Ladbrokes, Paddy Power).

Fleetwood and Aldershot had contrasting emotions at the end of last Saturday's clash between the sides but I'm backing both to pick up three points this weekend.

Micky Mellon's Fleetwood beat the Shots 4-1 at Highbury to make it two wins on the spin and they are now looking good after finding their feet in the Football League.

The Cod Army dealt well with the dismissal of Dean Howell in the 28th minute and marched on to victory after leading 1-0 at the time of the red card.

"It was a really special performance from us," said Mellon after the match.

"It was our day. We needed our subs to get us through that long 45 minutes, but we're delighted with the victory."

Now they make the short trip up the Fylde Coast to Morecambe and they will be right up for this local showdown.

Morecambe have won two games in a row - on the road at Bristol Rovers in the league and Accrington in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy - but it isn't quite as rosy for them at home.

The Shrimps haven't won at the Globe Arena this season and they weren't too hot at the end of last term as they failed to claim victory in their final five home games.

I like the look of Fleetwood to win this skirmish and will be having some of the 7/5 for the away win.

Aldershot haven't had such a successful start to the season as they sit fourth from bottom.

But the Shots are still better off than Saturday's opponents Bristol Rovers, who lie in the relegation zone.

Rovers have lost all three of their league and cup games at home this term and have done so by conceding eight goals and scoring none.

Not vintage form and Aldershot seem in better spirits after seeing off Exeter on penalties in their midweek JPT scrap.

"We had to respond from Saturday's defeat [at Fleetwood]," boss Dean Holdsworth told BBC Surrey.

"I'm delighted for all the players. Coming down to Exeter to win and go through is really good for the football club.

"It can only give us confidence going into Bristol Rovers.

"Their attitude was spot-on, absolutely brilliant."

I tipped Aldershot for a play-off place at the start of the season and expect them to climb the standings and get amongst the contenders.

The 12/5 for the Shots to win on Saturday makes appeal and is my second tip for the weekend's action.
