The Czech is well known to English football fans after a successful loan spell with Watford last season, and the 21-year-old will now get the chance to perform in the Barclays Premier League.

He scored 22 goals for Watford as they reached the Championship play-off final - a run which brought him to the attention of West Brom boss Steve Clarke.

"I'm delighted to welcome Matej to the club," Clarke said on the club's official website.

"He had a really good year with Watford and we believe he's got the qualities to score goals at a higher level. Hopefully, he'll show that this year with us.

"We had Matej watched throughout last season. As well as some excellent scouting reports, we had some really good feedback from within Watford about Matej as both a player and person.

"I've said previously we're a bit light in the forward areas and Matej will increase competition for places. He's another good quality striker to add to the other three senior forwards we have here."

Vydra, who will wear number 20 for the club, said Clarke played a big part in convincing him to choose the Hawthorns from a variety of offers.

"I didn't know a month ago if I was coming back to England but I am very pleased to become a West Bromwich Albion player and I will do my best for the team," he said.

"There was a lot of club interest from around Europe and England but I choose West Bromwich Albion because of the manager.

"He is one of the best managers in England and plays a European style.

"I spoke briefly to my former coach (Gianfranco) Zola on the telephone and he advised me to go to West Bromwich Albion because the style of play will suit me.

"I think it is a good choice for me. Another reason I chose West Bromwich Albion is because it is a great opportunity to play alongside a big striker like Nicolas Anelka."

Sky Bet have priced up Vyrdra at 150/1 to be the Premier League's top goalscorer this season, while he is also available at 4/1 to bag the most goals for West Brom.
