The Spaniard has failed to sparkle at Stamford Bridge since his £50million move from Liverpool in January 2011 but you can be sure there are plenty of clubs who would gladly sign the striker.

Chelsea are seriously interested in acquiring Wayne Rooney from Manchester United and the return of Romelu Lukaku from his loan spell at West Brom also boosts the attacking options for returning chief Jose Mourinho.

That means a move away from the Blues could be on the cards for Torres but where would he end up? Transfer Focus investigates....

Who Wants Him?

Barcelona (7/2 to sign Torres this summer with Sky Bet): We don't quite know how Barcelona will look to boost their squad after head coach Tito Vilanova stepped down due to ill health last week so this move would require a wait until the new boss is in place. Torres impressed during the early stages of his career with Atletico Madrid in Spain and maybe a return to the Primera Division would get his form on the up. It would certainly create a few headlines!

Napoli (7/2): This move makes a lot of sense with Torres' former Chelsea and Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez now in situ in Naples. The Serie A side already look set to reunite their new boss with Pepe Reina so there is a burgeoning Spanish contingent in place at the Stadio San Paolo. This looks to be the most likely destination for the striker.

Atletico Madrid (12/1): There are plenty of happy memories for Torres of life at Atletico from his initial spell with the Spanish club. Manager Diego Simeone is certainly in the market for a new striker after Radamel Falcao joined Monaco and the return of their former hero would be welcomed by the fans. This isn't a deal to rule out just yet.

Liverpool (12/1): This return appears much, much more unlikely than a switch back to Atletico. Torres isn't the Liverpool fans' favourite player since moving away from Anfield and Chelsea would have to accept a much smaller transfer fee than the £50million they splashed out to land the forward. Luis Suarez could still move away but this isn't the striker we would expect to fill the Uruguayan's boots on Merseyside.

Also available with Sky Bet: PSG (40/1), Tottenham (40/1), Anzhi Makhachkala (50/1), Juventus (50/1), Real Madrid (50/1), Newcastle (66/1).

Sky Bet's Andy Lee says: "It seems far-fetched but based on the business we've seen, Barcelona have been made joint-favourites to be Fernando's next club!

"They were 33/1 to sign Torres at the end of May, but the Catalan giants have now been made 7/2.

"A destination that seems a bit more likely for Torres would be Napoli- especially with Rafael Benitez in charge of the Italian club. As mentioned, he is also 7/2 to join the Serie A runners-up from a high of 20/1, also at the end of the recent Premier League season.

"We have also seen some emotional business on Torres to return to either Atletico Madrid or Liverpool - they are both priced at 12/1 to secure his services.

"A dark horse in the race for his signature could be Tottenham, who are still looking for a striker - the 40/1 price may attract the interest of some punters."

The Stats

2012/13 season 68 games, 28 goals - Torres still grabbed vital goals despite the criticism levelled at him throughout the previous campaign. He scored in the 2-1 Europa League final victory against Benfica.

2011/12 season 56 games, 14 goals - it wasn't a vintage season for the Spaniard but he did score a hat-trick in the 6-1 victory against London rivals QPR at Stamford Bridge.

What Torres Says

June 2013: "I am the first to admit that a lot more was expected of me, even I expected more of myself. Now I have the added pressure of Mourinho and that's a challenge for any player. Chelsea is the club I'm at and where I want to be, I want to keep winning trophies there. I am dealing with the situation in a normal way, every summer there are rumours about new coaches and new players. Mourinho is a very demanding coach but he always guarantees success, and I trust that he has a plan for me. I have known (Barca president Sandro) Rosell for a very long time. We have a close relationship but that's it." Al Primer Toque

June 2013: "I'm looking forward to the chance of working with Jose. It is the same every summer, there is talk and rumours every day. When I signed for Chelsea I signed for five-and-a-half years and I want to be there for all of that."

April 2013: "I have many things still to give to this club. I have three more years contract so I'm expecting to stay at least three years."

What Others Say

June 2013, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho: "Torres so far is so-so. Somebody could expect more because of his potential, because of what he did before. But not so bad as people sometimes try to say. There is a balance. Normally, the tendency is to say it was a big mistake. It was a big mistake because it didn't work."

January 2013, Chelsea manager (at that time) Rafael Benitez: "The fans loved Torres when he was scoring and giving everything. They will love him again when he starts scoring goals again. They will appreciate the effort."

October 2012, Chelsea manager (at that time) Roberto Di Matteo: have no concerns about Fernando. He always works hard for the team and, whether he scores or not, he's always contributing. We can't just rely on one player. We want to share the responsibility. Sometimes, he gets more chances, sometimes less. But he's been scoring goals, he's been making goals, and we can't expect him to be scoring every game."
