Given lost his first-team place to Brad Guzan this season, with the former Newcastle keeper starting only two Premier League games.
The 37-year-old, who still has three years left to run on his contract at Villa Park, is keen to move on in search of regular first-team football this summer.
Given claims Lambert agrees that it is best for the former Republic of Ireland keeper to leave with Guzan now the number one keeper at Villa Park.
"I had a meeting with [manager] Paul Lambert and we both agreed that I should be playing first-team football. And that's not happening at Villa right now."
