Sky Sports understands that Blues boss Lee Clark has been hugely impressed with the former Burnley man since he took charge at St Andrew's.
The 34-year-old midfielder has started more than 30 games for the club this season, and he has performed in a number of roles.
Elliott's current deal is due to expire in the summer and his availability is attracting interest - with his former boss Eddie Howe known to be keeping tabs on developments.
Howe, now back at Bournemouth, played with Elliott at Dean Court before managing him at Burnley and he is considering a move to unite them again on the South Coast.
Elliott played over 220 games for Bournemouth before moving and is still considered a club legend.
There is also Championship interest in the midfielder, although Birmingham still hope they could retain his services beyond this summer.
Clark has said of Elliott: "Wade has been a big player for us. He has been excellent in different roles.
"He's important to us because he's a very intelligent footballer and a good footballer.
"When he's on the ball he links everything from defence into attack. He's a very good passer and he plays with a good energy."
