Rumours continue to suggest that Sturridge could be a casualty of a summer of change at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have worked hard to bolster their attacking ranks, with the likes of Oscar, Eden Hazard and Victor Moses brought on board.
Sturridge could find himself surplus to requirements when Di Matteo has a fully fit squad from which to select, restricting his game time and opportunities to impress.
A number of clubs, including Arsenal and Liverpool, are said to have been alerted by the 23-year-old's possible availability.
Di Matteo, though, has sought to bring an end to the speculation by claiming that Sturridge remains part of his plans heading forward.
After watching the England international net in a thrilling 5-4 Capital One Cup victory over Manchester United on Wednesday, Di Matteo said: "I get asked about speculation but I am very happy with him. He scored a goal and had a number of good chances.
"He's our striker and as far as I'm concerned he's part of this team."
