Matthews wants new Hoops deal

Adam Matthews has pledged to "definitely" sign a new contract for Celtic if and when the offer is put on the table.

Adam Matthews: Happy to sign a new deal

Hoops boss Neil Lennon revealed on Thursday that the Parkhead club had begun talks with the 20-year-old former Cardiff right-back, who signed a four-year deal in 2011, as well as Victor Wanyama, Thomas Rogne, James Forrest, Charlie Mulgrew and Gary Hooper.

Matthews spoke on the topic ahead of Saturday's Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with Motherwell at Fir Park, where victory for the visitors could take them top of the league before the trip to Russia for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Spartak Moscow.

He said: "The club has been great to me and I really enjoy being here so if I am offered a new deal I will happily sign, definitely.

"The club is massive. Champions League is one of the main things, obviously, but the fans are brilliant and it is an honour to play in front of them every week so I am happy to stay.

"Every player wants to play in the Champions League but I think even without it Celtic are a massive club, so I am happy here.

"The atmosphere against Benfica (last week) was probably one of the best - alongside an Old Firm game - that I have played in.

"It was great be a part of that so I am looking forward to the rest of the campaign."
