Rangers host npower League 1 side Walsall in the second round of the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night hoping to claim their first victory of the season.
A 5-0 thrashing by Swansea unfolded on the opening day of the Barclays Premier League despite manager Mark Hughes being busy in the transfer window.
But on Saturday they steadied the ship with a 1-1 draw at Norwich.
"The team stayed compact and we got our result away from home," Hoilett said.
"We're in the rebuilding process and we're moving forward, so it was a great result picking up points.
"Of course we had what happened last week in the back of our minds, but we got the point and now we want to push on for a result.
"We're building as a team and it takes time to get used to each other's style of process."
Hughes refuses to dismiss QPR's Capital One Cup campaign as an irrelevant sideshow to the Premier League.
"At this time of the year players should be able to cope if they are at the correct level fitness-wise, so I don't see any problems playing twice in a week," he said.
