Mancini claimed Rodwell will have to improve his game to force his way into the City side in the forseeable future.
Rodwell, part of the England squad which triumphed against Italy on Wednesday evening in Berne, recognises he may have to be patient but has faith in his ability.
He said: "It is a great opportunity for me, joining the league champions. It is a chance to win things. It will be an exciting place to go, playing with amazing players.
"I'm looking forward to working with all of them but Yaya Toure is a great player. You look up to him as a great role model.
"They won the league last year and I'm sure will look to improve on that, especially in the Champions League as well.
"I am still young but I'm going to try and work my way into the set-up and find my feet early doors."
Rodwell added: "Obviously it is expected that you have to improve at such a great club but I believe in my ability and I'll go there with that frame of mind.
"It is a great squad and we will see what happens. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
"No matter what squad I go to, I always feel I can add something to it. That's what I'm there for."
Rodwell broke into the England side last autumn but his international career has been checked by injury problems until his comeback to the squad in Berne.
He said: "It's been frustrating because I've not really kicked a ball since those England games in the autumn.
"I've had a lot of injuries, but I'm fit now and this is a great opportunity and I'm just so proud to be back involved.
"It was a recurring hamstring injury that took time to go away but I feel like it's over now.
"I had to shelve hopes of going to the Euros but that is football, everyone gets injuries and you've got to move on."
