The 32-year-old was carried off in the final home game of the season against West Ham, but City boss Nigel Pearson is already looking forward to welcoming back his talismanic midfielder.
"Richie is doing very well. He's making very good progress. This is the first major injury he has had in his career. He's worked very hard during the summer and is on schedule," Pearson told the media as Leicester's players returned for pre-season training on Monday.
"He won't make the start of the campaign. Initially, after his operation, we were looking at October time and he is still on track for that at the moment.
"I'm not going to put a deadline on that, but he is doing very well."
