Reading striker Williams and former Hibernian midfielder Cregg are both expected to play in a friendly against East Fife on Wednesday.
"Brett has done okay considering Reading are just back for pre-season and he'll stay for the week so we can have a good look," said Lomas.
"He might get a run against East Fife and it's the same with Patrick."
St Johnstone start their campaign on July 19 with a Europa League clash against Turkish outfit Eskisehirspor and Lomas hopes to have made a number of additions before then.
"I'm hopeful of getting four or five new faces in for the start of the season," he said. "I know my chairman, Steve Brown, is working hard to deliver on that side of things for the fans.
"It would be great if he could pull something off before we go to Turkey. That would be a bonus."
