Nigel Hasselbaink believes he made the correct decision in joining St Johnstone on a two-year contract.

Hasselbaink: Happy with Saints decision

The Dutchman, who played for PSV in 2009/10, impressed at St Mirren last season and snubbed a switch to England in favour of linking up with the Europa League-bound outfit.

And the 21-year-old is relishing the prospect of joining Steve Lomas' Saints and is certain he can prove a success at McDiarmid Park.

Hasselbaink said: "I had a good feeling about St Johnstone and I am the kind of person who acts on my gut feelings. The manager impressed me and I liked what he had to say when I spoke to him.

"Everything felt right. I liked the way St Johnstone played last season and I think I can be a success here.

"There was interest from clubs in League One but I think the SPL is better than that. I want to play at the highest level I can so hopefully, if I do well with St Johnstone, that can happen.

"I feel I have done alright since I came to Scottish football.

"It is different to what I was used to in Holland, but it has been good and I think I'm improving as a player. I am still young so I have plenty more improvement to come."
