Wylde Named in U21 Squad

Bolton winger Gregg Wylde has been named in Billy Stark's Scotland Under 21s squad for their crucial European Championship qualifier against Bulgaria.

Gregg Wylde: Set to be assessed by Stark

Wylde made the switch south of the border after leaving administration-hit Rangers in March but FIFA red tape has prevented him from featuring for his new club so far.

Also in the pool for the clash in Lovech on May 31 is influential Huddersfield forward Jordan Rhodes.

He was left out of the squad for last month's friendly against Italy with his club side pushing for a play-off spot in npower League One.

Wylde's last competitive outing was a 4-1 win for Rangers against Inverness on February 26.

Stark is keen to assess the 21-year-old, who has been restricted to a handful of practice matches with Bolton since then.

He told Press Association Sport: "It's a chance to get Wylde up and see how he's looking.

"He has gone off the radar because he has not been able to play down there.

"He has played a few bounce games but it's an opportunity to have a look at him in training and see how he's looking."

Stark is confident Rhodes will be in the right frame of mind for what is a crucial game for the young Scots, regardless of the outcome of the play-offs, with Huddersfield set to face MK Dons in two semi-final legs.

He said: "The timing of the game is not one you would particularly want, a couple of weeks after the end of the season.

"Jordan is involved in play-offs and you're ready to deal with euphoria or abject disappointment depending on how it goes.

"But he's such a level-headed boy that he will be fine and he's desperate to contribute to our cause."

Also in the squad is Rangers goalkeeper Grant Adam who was last week fined £500 for chanting a sectarian slogan outside a Glasgow nightclub.

Adam - on loan at Airdrie United - was a half-time replacement against Italy but was stretchered off within seconds of the restart after taking a blow to the head.

Stark said: "Grant was unfortunate in the Italy game that he lasted just 28 seconds.

"But he showed he is brave and he is committed.

"He has done well with us and we all make mistakes. We are happy to have him."
