Paul Green has admitted it was a tough decision to leave Derby, but feels the time is right for a new challenge.

Paul Green: Leaving Derby

The Republic of Ireland international has left Pride Park after turning down the chance to sign a new deal.

Green leaves on a free transfer and the former Doncaster man admits it will be a wrench to leave Pride Park after four years at the club.

"I have been here four years and had some great times, and the fans have been absolutely fantastic with me," Green told the Derby Telegraph.

"It's a really tough decision to go because this is a big club, one of the biggest in the Championship.

"I have got good friends here at Derby and we have a great team spirit but a fresh challenge elsewhere is what it came down to in the end.

"I sat down with my family and discussed it and came to a decision that it was time for a change. I had to think about my family as well."

A number of Championship clubs, including Ipswich and Leeds, have been credited with an interest in Green, but the 29-year-old insists he has yet to decide where he will be plying his trade next season.

"At this moment in time there is nothing concrete," added Green.

"There is a lot of speculation but I don't know where I am going to be yet."
