No Talks About Valencia Surgery

Sir Alex Ferguson has stated that there have been no discussions about Antonio Valencia undergoing surgery to remove a plate from his ankle.

Antonio Valencia: Great form for Manchester United

Reports had suggested that the Manchester United winger was set to have an operation at the end of the season to take a plate out of his ankle.

Ecuador coach Reinaldo Rueda said earlier this week that he had discussed the matter with Valencia as he was keen to have him available for a couple of World Cup qualifiers in the summer.

Ferguson has now attempted to clarify the situation by revealing there are no plans to send the 26-year-old, who has been in sparkling recent form, under the knife.

"I am not sure where the story about his ankle has come from," said the United manager ahead of Sunday's clash with Queens Park Rangers.

"It has never been discussed. He has a plate but at the moment it stays there.

"As far as his form is concerned, what can you say?

"Antonio has been unbelievable. Absolutely brilliant.

"When you have someone like that coming back to their very best, at this time of year, it is a bonus."

Valencia's recent performances have meant that United have not really missed Portuguese winger Nani, who has been absent with an ankle problem.

But Nani is now poised to return from a five-match lay-off to provide Ferguson with an important boost at a crucial stage of the season.

"Nani is back training," he said.

"He is a good addition because he is such a talented player."
