Jonas Gutierrez insists Newcastle need to enjoy their derby clash with Sunderland on Sunday.

Jonas Gutierrez: Prepares to face Sunderland

Newcastle go into the game knowing they have dominated the Tyne-Wear showdown for a number of years now.

Sunderland have just one win in 14 against their old rivals, and they will be looking to start putting that right on Sunday.

But Gutierrez feels the match offers Newcastle the chance to relax going into the game.

"It is something fantastic and something we want to enjoy," said Gutierrez

"But we want to stand out in the game.

"I know they (Sunderland) are coming here with a point to prove, and it will be difficult.

"We just want to get to what we have been doing."

Gutierrez goes into the game on the back of a superb goal in their 2-2 draw with Wolves, but admits that he does not enjoying scoring if they do not win.

He added: "It's always good to score, but I wasn't happy after Wolves because we didn't win the game.

"I'd like to score again in the next game, but I'd take the win every time.

"I don't set targets in terms of goals, but I do try to improve each game.

"In my position if I scored five or six a season it would be good. But I don't think too much about it.

"I try to better each game, each season. If I improve all year round that's great."
