Rodallega's current deal with the Latics expires at the end of the season and the Colombia international has been linked with a move out of the DW Stadium.
The 26-year-old joined Wigan from Mexican club Necaxa in January 2009 and has established himself as a key player in Martinez's schemes.
Martinez expressed his optimism last week of reaching an agreement with Rodallega over a new deal, has once again said that progress will be made in due time.
"We all know how much he has improved over the last few seasons and how important he has been for Wigan Athletic," enthused the 38-year-old. "He is attached to Wigan and we all want him to be happy at the club.
"He has a massive role (to play at Wigan). He wants to see Wigan winning the next football game and we need his type of characters here.
"But it is something (signing a new contract) that will take some time. There are certain logistics of his situation. He has a Colombian agent and that takes a bit of time."
