Colchester substitute Steven Gillespie sealed a comfortable 4-0 win against Bromley as the U's reached the FA Cup second round.

Simon Hackney met John White's cross on the half-volley from the edge of the area to leave Gareth Williams no chance in the Bromley goal.

And Kayode Odejayi ended the match as a contest just three minutes later after he picked up the ball in the Bromley half, beat two defenders and coolly slotted past Williams.

Bromley hit-man Warren McBean - who has 11 goals to his name this season - was replaced by Gareth A Williams at half-time and he immediately carved out the home side's first chance before tamely shooting at Colchester goalkeeper Ben Williams.

And Williams was left to rue his miss when David Fox's corner was met by the head of Clive Platt on 71 minutes.

And man-of-the match Fox provided the cross from the right for Gillespie - who replaced Odejayi - to lose his defender and head back across goal with three minutes left on the clock.
