Walsall winger Mark Wright has revealed manager Paul Merson was a key factor in his decision to sign a new deal with the club.
The 22-year-old penned a new one-year contract along with young midfielder Kris Taylor, to commit himself to the Saddlers for Merson's first full season in charge.
"My confidence has built up since Paul Merson has been in charge because he has allowed me to express myself," Wright told the Express and Star.
"It certainly helps when someone of the calibre of Paul Merson puts his faith in me and the belief that he has in the younger players is an inspiration to us all.
"This is an opportunity for us to show what we can do and help lift this club back into the First Division."
