Walsall player-manager Paul Merson admits the Saddlers are lacking in self-confidence as they bid to secure a late escape from relegation.
Walsall currently lie third-bottom, two points adrift of safety, and must beat Rotherham on Sunday if they are to stand any chance of overhauling nearest rivals Gillingham.
Merson has failed to pick up a single point since assuming control at Bescot, the club's latest setback being Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Crystal Palace.
He said: "I felt we deserved something against Palace but when you're at the bottom you lack belief.
"That's understandable with the position we're in.
"But if we go and win on Sunday it makes Gillingham have to go and get a result."
