Wednesday boss Chris Turner celebrated his first win as manager as his side turned the formbook upside down at Hillsborough against promotion-chasing Forest.

Gerald Sibon struck for the rock-bottom Owls on the stroke of half-time and 10 minutes after the break Allan Johnston clipped home a second.

It was Turner's eighth match in charge since arriving from Hartlepool in early November. It is only Wednesday's third League win of the season and their first since a 2-1 win in the Yorkshire derby with Bradford at Hillsborough on October 19.

Forest have now lost three of their last four League matches and their play-off hopes were dealt another blow by a Wednesday line-up hell-bent on ending their miserable sequence of results.

Turner named new loan signing from Portsmouth Lee Bradbury on the bench and bolstered his goal-shy attack by opting for a 4-3-3 formation.

That meant a start for Wolves striker Adam Proudlock who operated in a front three alongside Sibon and fellow loan Johnston.

Forest boss Paul Hart made one change from the side that beat Reading last week with David Prutton coming into midfield in place of Andy Reid.

Hart's promotion-chasers were first to threaten, Marlon Harewood and Michael Dawson both heading over in the eighth minute.

Defender Matt Hamshaw was first to show for the home side, his thunderbolt of a free-kick from 35 yards testing Forest keeper Darren Ward.

Proudlock's goalbound 20-yarder was blocked by Jon Olav Hjelde and Sibon shot wide from close range before Wednesday defender Haslam was booked for his challenge on Jack Lester.

Johnston was prominent down the left for the Owls and Sibon's close-range effort was blocked by the alert Dawson as Wednesday took control.

Hjelde threw himself at Johnston's shot from the edge of the area and the Middlesbrough winger then headed over from six yards, but Harewood reminded the Hillsborough faithful why the visitors are flying high when he flashed a shot wide from close range, while Dawson went close with another header.

Wednesday keeper Kevin Pressman did not resume after the interval due to injury so Chris Stringer stepped in, while Forest went straight onto the offensive.

Striker David Johnson suddenly burst into life, but he pulled his shot wide from the edge of the area and the visitors were made to pay.

Hamshaw again broke free down the right and his low cross to the near post was turned home by Johnston to give the Owls a two-goal lead.

It was stirring stuff from Wednesday who threatened again when Derek Geary's cross was hacked clear by Prutton, while Paul McLaren went close from 18 yards after getting on the end of Johnston's cross.

Forest boss Hart threw on Eoin Jess for the ineffective Lester with half-an-hour to go, but Wednesday were spurred by the smell of their first League win in over two months.

The home side even rode the loss of Hamshaw to what looked like a serious injury in the 69th minute with Alan Quinn sent on as replacement - and still they pressed.

Haslam's close-range shot was turned away by Ward for a corner, as was a fine effort by Quinn moments later as Wednesday's confidence soared.

Substitute Quinn made a real nuisance of himself during his short time on the pitch, but he helped keep the Owls on the front foot as Forest were restricted to a late long-range effort from Dawson in the closing stages.
