Grimsby are hopeful of keeping skipper John McDermott despite relegation to Division Two.

The experienced defender is out of contract in the summer, but the club insist everything will be done to keep him at Blundell Park.

A Mariners spokesman said: "John could well exercise his right to look around but the club wants him to stay.

"He has been here a long time and he has been a fantastic servant to Grimsby. We will be making him an offer."
