Grimsby striker Phil Jevons is ready to try to resurrect his career at Blundell Park.
The 23-year-old has been absent from the Mariners line-up since last August, having been out on a long-term loan at Hull for most of the season.
Town have been deterred from playing Jevons by the substantial amounts of money they have to pay to his former club Everton for every appearance he makes on top of bonuses.
But now Jevons is looking to renegotiate his Blundell Park contract and will have talks with manager Paul Groves later this month.
Meanwhile, according to the Grimsby Evening Telegraph, Everton have responded to Town's request to reduce their demands with an offer.
Town chairman Peter Furneaux said: "Phil Jevons wants to play football and he is prepared to negotiate a new contract with us."
