COVENTRY CITY REPORTS 2002-2003

Coventry's week of woes continued as their winless streak was extended to 11 games following a goalless draw against Gillingham at Highfield Road.

The Sky Blues, who have won only one league game in 2003, have now gone 426 minutes without a goal but can count themselves unfortunate not to have broken those records in an entertaining encounter.

Their final home game of the season had been somewhat overshadowed by the news this week they have debts of more than £20million and must release nine players on free transfers.

Player-manager Gary McAllister described the club as "an absolute disaster from top to bottom" after the defeat by Stoke on Easter Monday, though at least results elsewhere ensured their First Division survival. Significantly, none of the nine players given free transfers started against the Gills.

The visitors started the brighter of the two sides with defender Nayron Nosworthy, who impressed in attack in the 1-0 defeat of Bradford on Easter Monday, almost opening the scoring inside two minutes when his close-range header was saved by Gary Montgomery.

Danny Spiller saw his 30-yard shot hit the woodwork minutes later for Gillingham before McAllister had City's first meaningful effort on 13 minutes as his side sought only their first win at Highfield Road since Boxing Day, but his effort went wide.

Matt Jansen went close with two efforts and Isaac Osbourne had a shot saved by Brown as the Sky Blues began to get on top.

Calum Davenport, Dean Gordon, Osbourne and Muhamed Konjic all went close in 10-minute spell at the start of the second half as the Sky Blues sought to end their goal drought.

City's pressure failed to yield a goal though and the visitors grew in confidence. Spiller, who was impressive all afternoon, fired over from the edge of the box - but like City's season, the game fizzled out.
