COVENTRY CITY REPORTS 2002-2003

Coventry 0 Bradford 2

Andy Gray's 12th goal of the season and a clincher from Claus Jorgensen gave Bradford their third away win in five attempts as Coventry's new-look strikeforce failed to end the team's goal drought.

On-loan Blackburn forward Matt Jansen and a fit-again Julian Joachim were the players charged with bringing the Sky Blues their first goal in five matches.

But it was makeshift frontman Gray, with just two goals in over 100 matches before this campaign, who looked every inch the seasoned striker as he played a one-two with Ward before slotting the opener after 22 minutes.

Shots from distance had been the order of the day up to that point - Coventry's Gary Caldwell bringing an excellent save out of Aidan Davison while Lewis Emanuel forced Morten Hyldgaard to tip round the post at the other end.

The hosts' new strike partnership did finally manage a shot on goal after Gray had set them the task of finding an equaliser - Joachim seeing his 25-yard drive plucked from beneath the crossbar by Davison.

But it was Bradford who finished the half on top as Simon Francis sent over an outswinging corner and Ward headed goalwards only for Caldwell to get in the way of the ball.

Coventry started the second-half with a greater degree of urgency and after a Caldwell headed over the top another aerial attempt from Craig Pead brought a fine save from the in-form Davison.

Having weathered the onslaught, Bradford then came within inches of doubling their lead when a superb 20-yard effort from Claus Jorgensen smacked against the woodwork with Hyldgaard well and truly beaten.

Despite no shortage of effort, Coventry never came as close to scoring themselves as headers from Caldwell and Muhamed Konjic and hopeful long shots from Vicente Engonga and Jansen failed to find their mark.

Just as the single goal looked like being sufficient, Ward picked out Jorgensen in the Coventry area and the Dane made no mistake with a low finish.
