Experienced quartet Charlie Oatway, Richard Carpenter, Gary Hart and Guy Butters have all agreed new one-year contracts with Brighton.
Skipper Oatway, fellow midfielders Carpenter and Hart and centre-half Butters would all have been out of contract at the end of June and will now stay on as the club prepare for life in League One next season.
Utility-man Kerry Mayo, who will enjoy a testimonial this summer, has also been offered a one-year deal and the club are awaiting his response.
As expected, veteran defender Jason Dodd, midfielder Alexis Nicolas and forwards Mark McCammon and Chris McPhee have been released while Argentinian striker Federico Turienzo's contract has been terminated by mutual consent.
Manager Mark McGhee said: "We've assessed the squad and feel that those who have been retained give us a balance between experience and youth, but still leaves us enough opportunity to strengthen the squad - which we will be redoubling our efforts to do so."
