Brighton manager Mark McGhee's future has been thrown into doubt amid talk of a boardroom struggle at the Withdean Stadium.
Chairman Dick Knight has stood by McGhee throughout another season of struggle on the south coast which culminated in relegation from the Coca-Cola Championship, but a club statement tonight revealed an announcement would be made concerning the managerial position in the next few days.
Knight and chief executive Martin Perry are of the opinion McGhee has done the best job possible with the shoestring resources at the club, and that he is the best man available to lead them to promotion from League One - a feat he achieved three seasons ago.
But other board members are thought to favour a change in the managerial hot-seat and local reports have suggested McGhee could quit the club or be ousted by a potential new investor.
The club statement read: "Albion chairman Dick Knight said tonight that good progress was being made resolving the club's managerial issues, but more discussions will take place before a full announcement - which is expected in the next few days."
