Zavon Hines scored his fourth goal in as many games as West Ham fought back to grab a draw in a competitive match at St Mary's stadium.

The 19-year-old did himself no harm in his attempt to convince Alan Curbishley that he deserves a place in his starting line up when the Hammers take on Wigan in their first Barclays Premier League match two weeks tomorrow.

His goal came in the 75th minute after ex-Southampton player Calum Davenport had met Julian Faubert's cross to put the away side back in the game on 42 minutes.

Curbishley fielded a strong side that included Carlton Cole, Craig Bellamy and Matthew Upson for the match, which was played in front of over 12,000 fans.

The home side had taken the lead through Dave McGoldrick on the half-hour mark after the number nine rose to meet Lloyd James' cross and head home past Marek Stech in the West Ham goal.

The striker then doubled his tally three minutes later before the Hammers hit back through Davenport and Hines to earn the draw.
