Danny Wilson: 'I feel let down by some of the decisions'

Barnsley manager Danny Wilson believes his players were "let down" by the referee after a 1-0 defeat at Bolton saw them routed to the bottom of the Championship table.

Jermaine Beckford put Wanderers ahead in the first half before Chris O'Grady missed a late penalty to save a point for the Tykes.

Wilson was angry with the referee and, despite the loss, was delighted with his side's performance and believed that they should have won the game.

"How do I feel? I feel let down," said Wilson, whose side are now five points adrift of safety.

"I feel let down by some of the decisions that were made against us today and I feel delighted in the performance because I thought the lads did ever so well.

"I think that we deserved something out of the game and I don't just think the one point. I think we deserved to be winning the game.

"They (the players) really upped the ante in the second half, I thought that we were excellent. We had great chances to possibly win the game and we had a stonewall penalty that wasn't given.

"I questioned the decision by the referee and I questioned quite a few decisions by the referee today.

"But the performance was excellent and if players give you a performance like that you can't ask more from them.

"You just hope a little bit of luck goes with you at certain times, but that deserted us today. But if we work like that we'll get it quickly."

Meanwhile, Bolton manager Dougie Freedman praised the referee's performance but was unhappy that his players could not finish the game off before they conceded the penalty.

Freedman said: "Was I disappointed in conceding the penalty? I was very disappointed with it

"You could sense it coming because they were throwing everything at us and we were going up the other end and if we don't finish with a goal you're going to vulnerable on the counter attack.

"I was disappointed in giving away a penalty and they will be more disappointed with missing it but I was more concerned that we didn't finish it off at the other end.

"I thought the referee had a very good game and I thought he got every decision correct, including the penalty. He was probably the man of the match.

"It was a very hard-fought victory but you can't expect anything more when you are fighting a team that are battling relegation.

"We knew it was going to be a game like that and it was an end to end game, but if you look at it we had enough opportunities to be in a comfortable position.

"If you don't take them, you're always going to give a team hope."
