  • Everton's top-four hopes suffered a huge dent as they lost 2-0 at Southampton to leave Arsenal in pole position to claim a Champions League spot. The Toffees conceded an own goal after just 53 seconds when Antolin Alcaraz headed into his own goal and when Seamus Coleman did likewise you knew it was not going to be their day. Everton had strong appeals for a penalty rejected when Leon Osman went down and although they rallied in the second half Saints ran out worthy winners.

  • The final whistle goes and it's all smiles for Southampton, while for Everton it's dejection.

    90+3
  • Ward-Prowse lets fly from 20 yards and brings a good save from Howard as Saints press for a third goal.

    90+1
  • We will have a minimum of three minutes added time.

    90
  • Everton replace Baines with Garbutt.

    89
  • You would think that if Southampton can keep hold of all their star players - and their talented young manager - then the top six would have to be a more than realistic aim for next season.

    88
  • Davis is replaced by Guly for Saints.

    87
  • Reed skips past the tackle of Alcaraz but the ball just goes out for an Everton goalkick.

    86
  • Naismith is caught offside and he cuts a dejected figure on a disappointing day from an Everton perspective.

    85
  • Some of the home fans are starting to drift away now so they obviously think the three points are in the bag.

    84
  • Certainly Lallana will have impressed the onlooking Roy Hodsgon today, as will Lambert, Shaw and Baines for that matter.

    83
  • Lallana is replaced by Reed for Saints.

    82
  • The game is really stretched now and Shaw bursts clear from inside his own half and only a strong tackle from Stones prevents him putting an unmarked Lambert through.

    81
  • Lallana bursts into the Everton box and tries to pick out Lambert but Alcaraz nips in to clear.

    80
  • Lovren and McCarthy tangle in the box, right in-front of the Everton fans, and there are howls for a penalty but again nothing is given.

    79
  • Saints are playing keep-ball by Everton's corner flag and you have to say they have held the edge in all departments today.

    78
  • Everton then force a corner but Ward-Prowse heads clear and when the ball is played back in Baines is caught offside.

    77
  • Naismith chases a long abll from Baines into the box, but a combination of Fonte and Shaw bundle him off it.

    76
  • Time is running out for Everton and it appears that their sustained spell of pressure has halted.

    75
  • Southampton make their first change with James Ward-Prowse coming on for Gallagher.
