Lyon will be out to reclaim top spot in Ligue 1 when they travel to Valenciennes tomorrow night.

Remi Garde's side had the chance to move five points clear last week when they took on struggling Evian at home, but were held to a goalless draw.

That point lifted Evian out of the relegation places but also gave Lyon's rivals a chance to replace them at the summit, which Paris St Germain duly did two days later with a 1-0 win at Bordeaux.

And Lyon goalkeeper Remy Vercoutre fears the January transfer window could undermine the club's push for a first Ligue 1 title since their run of seven in a row ended in 2008.

Lyon have yet to make any signings this month while PSG and third-placed Marseille have both reinforced their squads, and instead all the speculation is over who might leave with the club eager to cut costs.

And Vercoutre admits that is playing on the minds of the Lyon squad.

"Everything that happens around certain players, some of our key pillars, can destabilise them," he told L'Equipe.

"When they play they are a little less relaxed and that affects the team.

"I think the worst is behind us. But even so it is not always easy to put it behind you when we play. We are still affected by what is said. But magically, on January 31, it will all disappear."

Lyon are only below PSG on goal difference, with Carlo Ancelotti's men not in action until their Sunday evening meeting with Lille.

Valenciennes boss Daniel Sanchez is hoping a return to the Stade du Hainaut will boost his mid-table side after three successive away fixtures - two in Ligue 1 following a Coupe de France loss on penalties at Istres.

"It is not surprising to see Lyon on the podium," Sanchez told his club's website. "We know what awaits us.

"After three consecutive trips, it is important to return to our Stade du Hainaut. We know that playing at home gives us a little more confidence. For a game like this, facing the co-leader, meeting in front of our audience is important.

"I feel the team can get a good result against Lyon."
