Viktoria Plzen can confirm their place in the knockout stages of the Europa League for a second successive year when they meet Academica in Portugal on Thursday night.

A point will be enough to confirm the Gambrinus Liga leaders' place in the next round with a game still to play in the group stage.

Plzen have won three of four matches so far including a 4-0 thumping of Group B whipping boys Hapoel Tel-Aviv a fortnight ago.

That result would have been enough to see them through but for Academica producing one of the shocks of the tournament so far as they upset defending champions Atletico Madrid 2-0.

Plzen defender Marian Cisovsky is therefore wary of under-estimating their hosts, who had led when the sides met earlier this season in Plzen. The Czechs eventually won 3-1 after three second-half goals.

"In the first half of that match we had plenty of chances but failed to capitalise," Cisovsky told the club's website.

"Eventually we managed to break Academica down and scored a goal. You can see the quality of Academica in their other European matches.

"You can see that for yourself in their win over Atletico Madrid. That for me was the biggest shock in the Europa League so far.

"We thought that if we had beaten Tel-Aviv that our progress would be confirmed. We have to wait."

Academica striker Wilson Eduardo looms as the danger man for Plzen after he scored both goals in the success over Atletico.

The 22-year-old, who is on loan from Sporting Lisbon, also scored his side's opener against Plzen on Matchday One.

"That shows that this striker can be an enforcer in Europe," Cisovsky said.

"We will have to be very vigilant in front of him."
