Only two points may separate Hertha Berlin from Wolfsburg in the standings, but according to Hertha coach Jos Luhukay, the gulf between the two sides who meet at the Olympiastadion on Sunday is much greater.

Jos Luhukay: Still in relegation battle

A home win would lift Luhukay's men above their opponents and into the top six, but that would not mean they are better by any stretch of the imagination.

"We're not going to reel Wolfsburg in for many years to come," Luhukay said. "We're still looking for points to avoid relegation and we're a long way away from their reality.

"We only have a chance against Wolfsburg if we have a really good day."

The table never lies, though, and although Luhukay is only interested in keeping the bottom three at a safe distance, opposition coach Dieter Hecking sees them worthy of their current role as challengers for a place in Europe next season.

"Hertha are playing a really good season," he said.

"They are more united as a team and have an extraordinary striker in Adrian Ramos, and the coach has managed to tame what is a volatile environment in Berlin."

Keeping Ramos, the Bundesliga's top goalscorer, out of mischief is Hecking's biggest challenge, and it is one not helped by losing defensive lynchpin Naldo to suspension.

Timm Klose will take his place at the heart of the defence with Hecking instead aiming to use attack as the best form of defence.

"We've got to show how dangerous we can be in front of goal," he said. "We've got to turn the positive atmosphere from our recent results into another good performance."

Wolfsburg come into the game off the back of a 3-0 win over Mainz in the Bundesliga last weekend and victory in the DFB-Pokal against Hoffenheim in midweek, a result which set up a semi-final tie with Borussia Dortmund.

"When I look into the eyes of my players, I see that they are just as motivated as I am to get this third win in a week," added Hecking.
