With captain Kevin Nolan starting a four-match ban and fellow midfielder Mark Noble (calf) sidelined, the Hammers continue to struggle for numbers and Allardyce intends to include up to seven of his youth team squad.
James Tomkins and James Collins (both groin), Winston Reid (ankle), Andy Carroll (heel) and Ricardo Vaz Te (shoulder) are all missing whilst Mladen Petric has been released after his short-term deal expired.
Nottingham Forest will check on the fitness of midfielders David Vaughan and Djamal Abdoun ahead of the clash at the City Ground.
Vaughan (thigh), on loan from Sunderland, and Abdoun both missed the Championship draw at Reading on New Year's Day but Reds boss Billy Davies is hopeful that at least one of them will come back into the reckoning for the third round tie.
Striker Darius Henderson will be available for selection on Sunday after completing a three-match suspension while midfielder Jamie Paterson will be looking to keep his shirt after making his first start in just over a month against the Royals.
