  • The final whistle goes and Tottenham have beaten Anzhi Makhachkala 2-0 to take control of Europa League Group K. The Russians battled hard in the second half after earlier goals from Defoe and Chadli, but Spurs never looked like relinquishing their lead.

  • Chadli picks out Defoe and he tries to skip around the keeper, but by the time he had cut back inside there were bodies back for Anzhi and his attempted pass was easily intercepted.

  • Tottenham are happy for the clock to tick down as they pass it around with little ambition in midfield.

  • Lloris is forced into his best save of the night as he dives to his right to parry a well-struck 20-yard volley from Solomatin which bounced awkwardly just in front of him. Luckily the rebound falls to Walker and Spurs are able to get the ball clear quickly.

  • Yeschenko's volleyed cross from the right wing is headed emphatically clear by Dawson in the middle.

  • Eriksen doesn't seem to be having any problems with the tricky pitch as he orchestrates a flowing Spurs move which culminates in Defoe smashing a shot high into the stands from just outside the area.

  • Anzhi have made Tottenham work hard in this second half but have created few genuine opportunities and time is running out now to salvage something.

  • Anzhi respond with their third and final substitution, with Gadzhibekov replacing Angbwa.

  • Spurs make their final change as Eriksen comes on for Holtby.

  • The flag goes up for offside against Defoe following a slick move involving Chadli, Holtby and Dembele.

  • Dawson needs to be on his toes straight away against the powerful Traore as he makes an important tackle in the area and concedes a corner.

  • Walker gallops forward from right-back but Anzhi have numbers back in defence and another Spurs move breaks down.

  • Tottenham make a double change as Dawson and Sigurdsson come on for Kaboul and Lamela. It appears as though Kaboul may be going off as a precautionary measure after picking up a slight knock.

  • Yeschenko has added some pace to Anzhi's attack but he can find no way through as he darts down the left wing.

  • It looks for a second as though Solomatin is going to get past Kaboul after a threatening run but the Anzhi player then takes a tumble in the box. It is not clear whether that is a slip or a dive, but there was certainly no contact with the Tottenham player and the referee ignores half-hearted appeals for a penalty.

  • Anzhi are seeing much more of the ball as Spurs appear content to sit back, but the Londoners still look well organised at the back and will be difficult to break down.

  • There is a moment of concern for Walker as he goes down clutching his leg after coming off second best in a physical challenge with Traore, but he regains his footing relatively quickly.

  • Kaboul plays a gentle back-pass to Lloris but the ball takes a slight bobble and the Spurs keeper ends up slicing his kick into touch.

  • Jucilei blazes a wild effort high and wide from 20 yards as a decent spell of pressure for Anzhi comes to nothing.

  • Tottenham are certainly being tested now as Ahmedov delivers a teasing cross from the right which is cut out by Kaboul and goes behind for a corner.
