Bordeaux defender Benoit Tremoulinas believes "victory is paramount" in Thursday's Ligue 1 clash with St Etienne.

Despite an unbeaten run of three matches in all competitions, Les Girondins will be hoping for their first win in four on Thursday.

They are level on points with tomorrow's fourth-placed opponents but were criticised for a lacklustre performance in their goalless draw at Reims over the weekend.

Tremoulinas admits the comments were deserved but insists his side are desperate to move on.

"This was a very average game from us. We did not deserve better," the France international told the club's official website.

"We will quickly forget about it and concentrate on the match against St Etienne, which will be very important.

"Victory is paramount. We must start winning again. At home, it is very important."

Some have cited Bordeaux's hectic Europa League schedule as the reason for some of their below-par performances in the league.

Tremoulinas revealed there is fatigue amongst the camp but they are ready to end the year on a high before the winter break.

"Fatigue is present, but this is normal. We are ready to play three games. It is important to finish (the year) well," he added.

Their cause is helped by the fact St Etienne will have a host of players absent for Thursday's clash.

Banel Nicolita, Ismael Diomande, Brandao, Jean-Pascal Mignot and Alejandro Alonso will all be missing, yet boss Christophe Galtier is not too concerned.

"The workforce is diminished but we have to face that," he said. "It happens to all teams."

Galtier does not want to use that as an excuse, however, against a team who will pose a stubborn threat.

"Bordeaux have lost only two games since the start of the championship and are undefeated at home," he said.

"This is a team in great shape. Its strong point is its left side.

"Les Girondins are also used to playing games at the highest level. We must put in a big performance to bring a positive result."
