Nancy captain Andre Luiz is expecting a tough test from high-flying Valenciennes when the two sides meet in Ligue 1 on Saturday.

Valenciennes are currently fifth while Nancy are languishing at the foot of the table having won only one of their eight home league games this season.

Luiz, 32, has been at Nancy since 2005 and, despite accepting they face a good Valenciennes side, is defiant the players will continue to work to drag Jean Fernandez's team to safety.

"They are confident, playing well and are better than us at the moment," Luiz said on Nancy's official website.

"It will be very hard. I think Lyon or Bordeaux leave us some space, but not Valenciennes. We no longer have a choice, you have to win whatever the opponent. I believe. We will not give up."

Valenciennes travel to the Stade Marcel Picot still defying the odds and occupying fifth spot after losing only four times in the league so far this season.

Coach Daniel Sanchez guided Valenciennes to a 12th-placed finish last season but despite the encouraging start to this campaign he is aware that Nancy are in desperate need of a result.

"We are in a situation that is more enviable than that of Nancy, this is a fact," he told va-fc.com.

"We know that this Nancy team does not let go. It becomes increasingly difficult for them and they need to take points."

Sanchez reckons Nancy will try to stifle the attacking flair of Valenciennes players but is keen not to allow his team to be knocked off their stride.

"We know very well what to expect," he said.

"I expect fierce opposition on the part of Nancy. They know that, in general, we try to play. They will try to stop us and take us against, certainly. It is important for us not to fall into that trap."

Nancy have drawn their last three league games and a point against Valenciennes could be good enough to move them above Troyes and into 19th place.
