Wales ended Hungary's 100 per cent start to the qualifying programme for the 2011 Uefa Championships at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground.

The home side's match-winner was Sheffield United striker Ched Evans, who extended his remarkable record of a goal a game for the Welsh youngsters with a first half brace to take his tally to 11 in 10 outings.

The home side - managed by Brian Flynn - were good value for their success, having dominated the opening 45 minutes before withstanding some rough treatment from the unhappy Hungarians during the second half.

Wales started brightly with Wrexham's Neil Taylor on his home ground proving a thorn in the Hungarians' side throughout the opening 45 minutes.

The adventurous defender set up the first chance after five minutes with a teasing cross but Andy King's glancing header lacked the power to seriously test recent Liverpool recruit Peter Gulacsi.

It was not until the 15th minute that the visitors threatened, Liverpool's Krisztian Nemeth bringing a fine save from goalkeeper Chris Maxwell who was quickly off his line to narrow the angle.

And Wales deservedly went ahead after 16 minutes, due in no small part to Taylor's persistence and skill on the left before picking out Shaun MacDonald who nodded home.

But the home side's lead lasted less than two minutes when some uncertain Wales defending from a corner allowed full back Zsolt Korcsmar to force the ball over the line following a scramble.

Wales were quickly back into their stride and reinforced their grip on the game with two goals in the space of five minutes before the interval, both scored by Evans.

The first was set up by Christian Ribeiro who drove the ball low across the area where Evans seemed intent on keeping the ball in play but managed to turn it into the net from the narrowest of angles.

And four minutes before the break Evans made it 3-1, banging the ball confidently past Gulacsi from 15 yards.

The second period proved to be an anti-climax and the game was disrupted by a succession of petty fouls and substitutions until the final minute when King wrapped it up for Wales with a fierce effort from the edge of the penalty area.
