Wales look poised to give Andy Dorman the chance to become the first Briton to be capped at senior level under the new school rule.

St Mirren midfielder Dorman, 27, has no blood ties to the nation but was raised in the Welsh village of Hawarden.

FIFA recently ratified a change to their eligibility criteria to include players who have been educated for five years in a country.

Dorman, who said this week he considers himself Welsh and would jump at the chance to represent his adopted nation, could make his debut in next month's friendly against Scotland.

Football Association of Wales head of international affairs Mark Evans said in the Daily Mail: "We have been waiting patiently for this rule change so we could involve players like Andy.

"The Scottish FA had our full support on this issue because it means players brought up in Wales will be able to play for what they believe is 'their' country.

"We will be making contact with Andy.

"We haven't spoken to him before but we now hope to send someone up to Scotland to watch him in action.

"He may be able to play for Wales but we have to judge him on his ability and his form. However, we're looking forward to making contact with Andy and getting him involved."
