Islam Feruz became the first player to represent Scotland under the new school rule when he came off the bench in the 2-1 UEFA Under-17 Championship qualifying defeat against Cyprus on Tuesday night.

Celtic forward Feruz, 14, was a half-time substitute at East End Park and set up the game's opening goal when he fed Callum McGregor after a mazy run.

Somalia-born Feruz became eligible for international selection last week after FIFA ratified a rule change which allows British passport holders to play for any of the home nations, providing they have been educated in that country for five years.
