Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo has urged fans to respect whatever decision Andrew Driver makes over his international future.

And the Jambos boss insists he will make no attempt to influence the 21-year-old winger as he faces a choice between Scotland and England.

Oldham-born Driver was capped for Stuart Pearce's England Under-21 side this summer but new eligibility criteria means he could now switch allegiance Scotland.

The change in rules, which have been ratified by FIFA, allows players with a British passport to play for a country if they have attended school there for five years.

Driver - who moved to North Berwick as a youngster and represented Scotland at schoolboy level - has so far been non-committal on his future.

"This decision can only come from the player himself, nobody can make it for him," Laszlo told Hearts News.

"My duty is to make him a better player for Hearts and get as good a performance out of him for the team as I can.

"I cannot really give him any advice about this. It is a private matter for Andrew Driver.

"If he shows good performances for Hearts then I will be happy if he can play for a national team. But what that team is only he can decide now.

"It is not a decision for me as his manager but everybody must respect his decision. He has his own character.

"The only time I try to influence him is in games for Hearts.

"That is my job, to help him play as best he can for Heart of Midlothian."
