Stand-in manager Alfie Wylie takes the Northern Ireland Under-21s side into their UEFA Championship qualifier against Iceland on Tuesday in upbeat mood.

Wylie refuses to be downcast even though he has had to cope with a raft of withdrawals, not to mention successive defeats in the campaign.

Iceland won 6-2 in Coleraine the last time around, and that thumping came on the back of a 2-0 defeat by the Czech Republic.

Wylie - who has stepped up from his role as assistant, with manager Steve Beaglehole taking the under-19s in Bosnia - believes his team can get something from the game.

Certainly they will not be lacking in preparation, having arrived in Iceland on Sunday.

Wylie said: "We all know it will be a very difficult match but we will be approaching it in a positive manner.

"We will be going out there with the aim of getting our campaign back on track, and the players are all looking forward to the game.

"When Iceland beat us 6-2, the stats showed we had more shots - but their finishing was more clinical.

"While we are missing a number of players, there are still some in the squad who have senior team experience."

Ballymena United goalkeeper Sean O'Neill looks set to win his third cap, because Trevor Carson has been ruled out.

Meanwhile the under-19s booked their place in the UEFA Championship elite round by beating Bosnia 4-0 thanks to goals from Shane Duffy (2), Liam Boyce and Shane Ferguson.
