PARTY TIME IN PARIS
Paris was in party mode after France's dramatic 2-1 win over Italy in the Euro
2000 final.
Celebrations began the moment David Trezeguet's winner, in the 13th minute of
extra time, hit the back of the net.
Around 12,000 fans gathered at the central Hotel de Ville esplanade and
chanted "we are the champions."
The win makes France the first team in history to win the World Cup and then
follow up by winning the European title.
French flags were flying red, white and blue as the crowd made their way into
the surrounding city streets.
In similar circumstances to the World Cup win in 1998, the Champs Elysees
started to fill up with people as the party began.
It was the first time that France had won a major tournament outside of
France.
National flags from Algeria, Morocco and Lebanon were also seen in a tribute
to the multi-national make-up of the French national side.
Car horns started to sound throughout the city and fireworks were being set
off.
That was in total contrast to the Italian capital Rome where the screams of
joy that greeted Marco Delvecchio's 55th minute opener turned into an eery
silence at the end.
