Zidane - outstanding performer.
ZZ TOP WITH PELE
Pele named Zinedine Zidane as his player of Euro 2000 as UEFA unveiled
their all-star line-up.
There were four Premiership players among the 16 chosen by UEFA's technical
study group and announced before the final in Rotterdam.
Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier and former Scotland boss Andy Roxburgh joined
Pele to reveal the names in the Eurocard-Mastercard selection. Six more players
will be added to make a dream squad of 22.
Pele said: "For me Zidane was without doubt the best player in the
tournament. For the last three or four years he has maintained his brilliance.
When he won the World Cup he was one of the best players and he has maintained
it until now. I hope he continues for 10 more years like that."
Roxburgh added his own appreciation of the French playmaker. He said: "I'm
quite certain he has printed somewhere on his head 'made in heaven'. He is a bit
like a French Pele. He has definitely come from God.
"The game against Spain was one of the most sublime performances I've ever
seen from a midfield player."
Marcel Desailly, Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry and new Manchester United
keeper Fabien Barthez were the English-based players in the 16.
