Ashley Young has set his sights on earning an England recall but admits his performances for Aston Villa will dictate if he earns a reprieve from Fabio Capello.

Young has been in outstanding form for Villa since his £8million move from Watford two and a half years ago.

But he has been unable hold down a consistent spot in the England squad and was axed for the recent World Cup double header with Ukraine and Belarus.

Capello has only three more internationals before having to announce his squad for the 2010 finals and Young is aware he has to impress for Martin O'Neill's side to get back into contention.

Young said: "I was disappointed not to be in the England squad for the last two games but I've got to get on with it and try to get myself back in there.

"If I do well for Aston Villa, and concentrate on Aston Villa, that's all I can do.

"There is time to get back in the England squad but I'm not thinking about that now. I'm concentrating on the way things are going at Villa.

"There have been times before when I was out of the squad and got back in. I've got to keep working and trying to play well and hopefully I'll be back in there.

"If Villa are doing well it just shows the players are doing well, and hopefully I'll then be back involved."

Young set up both Villa goals in their win over Chelsea last weekend but is often being marked by two players this season.

He said: "It is a big challenge when teams put two players on you. You've got to work out different strategies to break that down.

"We were able to do that against Chelsea last week."
