 EURO 2008 REPORTS
Picture Nihat - scored the vital goal.

Turkey 1 Bosnia-Herzegovina 0

Turkey secured their place in Euro 2008 after Nihat Kahveci's first-half goal gave them a win over stubborn Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Having dominated the opening period, Nihat struck at the end of the first half to give Turkey a lead that they looked like they might build on.

However, Bosnia-Herzegovina dug in during the second half and, despite some nervy moments, Turkey held on for the win that gave them second place in Group C at Norway's expense.

Turkey went into the game knowing a win would see them through to the finals and they immediately went in search of the opener with Nihat firing wide from inside the box.

Arda Turan and Nihat also had efforts saved by Adnan Guso in the Bosnia-Herzegovina goal as Turkey began to take control of the game.

Apart from a wayward Branislav Krunic effort for the visitors, Turkey were completely dominating and the dangerous Nihat squandered two more opportunities to put them in front.

It appeared only a matter of time before Turkey broke Bosnia-Herzegovina's resistance and so it proved as Nihat finally put them in front three minutes before the break.

Hamit Altintop found space down the left and swung in a fine cross for Nihat, who finished well from 12 yards.

Bosnia-Herzegovina started the second half in much more confident fashion and Edin Dzeko's shot from inside the area was saved by Rustu Recber.

Unlike the first half, Turkey were struggling to break through the Bosnia-Herzegovina defence and the home crowd were beginning to get restless.

Bosnia-Herzegovina were frustrating Turkey, but Emre came close to giving them a vital second goal when his free-kick from the edge of the box flashed wide.

With time ticking down Turkey coach Fatih Terim brought Gokdeniz Karadeniz on for Nihat to bolster the midfield in a bid to hold onto the lead.

The visitors looked looked threatening late on, but Turkey held firm to secure their place in Austria and Switzerland.
