90 min: Deco gets another chance, this time much simpler, but his shot is kicked away from van der Sar. The little midfielder should have scored there. It doesn't matter, though, because as the ball breaks downfield referee Frisk blows the full-time whistle.

90 min: Into the last minute now. Portugal are on the brink of the final.

90 min: The ball is again cleared and Deco gets a glimmer of a chance until Stam shoulder charges him off the ball and lays it back to van der Sar. He pumps it long but Ricardo is able to gather.

90 min: The long throw is headed back out for another throw by Costinha.

90 min: Van Hooijdonk steps up to take the free-kick but can only find the wall. The ball breaks to Reiziger but Figo of all people slides in to put the ball out for a throw.

90 min: Van Hooijdonk goes down a little theatrically after backing into Couto on the edge of the Portugal box. The referee awards the free-kick and this is a great chance for Holland.

90 min: Van Hooijdonk gets the flick to the long throw-in but Portugal can scramble it clear. There will be four minutes of added time.

90 min: The free-kick is launched long after Figo is booked for not retreating 10 yards. It comes to nothing but Holland have a throw down the left.

89 min: It's all hands to the pump for Portugal now. Van der Vaart gets a shot away from the edge of the box which deflects into Ricardo's hands. Nervy moments for the hosts as the clock ticks down. Free-kick to Holland 40 yards from the Portugal goal.

88 min: Makaay gets a flick onto a long free-kick but van Nistelrooy can't latch onto it. When the second ball comes back in van Nistelrooy is penalised for a nudge in the back of Couto.

87 min: Portugal bring Fernando Couto on for Maniche. This is presumably an attempt to ensure van Hooijdonk has limited impact in the last few minutes.

86 min: Van Hooijdonk wins two successive headers as the Dutch gameplan for the last few minutes becomes apparent. Portugal are standing firm at present, though.

85 min: After a minute's worth of treatment, Ricardo gets back to his feet and play continues.

84 min: Van Bronckhorst looks to find van Hooijdonk with his free-kick but Ricardo is out to gather. The keeper did superbly there but rolls around dramatically as he tries to get back to his feet, tarnishing the good work he has done. The Dutch players are furious as they feel Ricardo is play-acting.

84 min: Van Hooijdonk wins his side a free-kick as Miguel fouls him in an aerial challenge.

83 min: Reiziger and Seedorf play a neat one-two down the right but Andrade is across well to see off the latter. Nuno Valente overplays at the back but manages to shepherd it out for a goal-kick as Seedorf can't control.

82 min: Portugal try to take advantage of the Dutch reorganising but Maniche's cross from the right sails over Nuno Gomes' head and drifts out for a goal-kick.

81 min: Holland bring Pierre van Hooijdonk on for the disappointing Robben.

81 min: Ricardo has to be alert as van der Vaart tries to latch onto a reverse pass from van Nistelrooy. Good goalkeeping there.

80 min: Carvalho has to get across to cover with Miguel caught upfield. He does well, though, by heading the ball away from Robben albeit out for a throw-in.

79 min: A quick glance at the benches now and you would not be able to tell who was winning. Luiz Felipe Scolari looks like a jack-in-a-box while Advocaat looks cool and calm.

78 min: A Portugal free-kick from the right is wasted by Figo as he flights the ball far too high for any of his team-mates in the penalty area.

77 min: Robben tries to slide the ball through a wall of players to find van Nistelrooy but Portugal are back in numbers and clear. Miguel powers down the right and cuts the ball back. Nuno Gomes slides it back again to Maniche but Cocu throws himself in bravely to block.

76 min: Figo appeals for a free-kick after tangling with van Bronckhorst but there's nothing doing and Holland can carry the ball clear.

75 min: Free-kick to Portugal as van der Vaart is pulled up for a foul on Petit just inside the Portugal half.

74 min: Portugal bring Nuno Gomes on for Pauleta, who has had two decent chances to score but is still yet to open his Euro 2004 account.

73 min: Holland take the free-kick short before pumping it long towards van Nistelrooy. Ricardo advances to the penalty spot to gather. Van Nistelrooy goes up with him and the goalkeeper is far from happy - with some reason - after catching a stray boot from the striker.

72 min: A sustained spell of Holland pressure ends as Andrade hacks clear. Pauleta goes in hard on Davids and both men are down. The free-kick will be to Holland when play restarts.

72 min: Robben goes into the book after Frisk adjudges he has dived one too many times, this time after colliding with Miguel.

71 min: Nuno Valente does superbly to deal with van Nistelrooy after the Dutchman chests a long ball down and looks to get a shot away. Free-kick to Holland after a tug from van Nistelrooy.

70 min: Deco's curling free-kick again gets no further than the wall and a great tackle from van Bronckhorst sees off the secondary thrust from Portugal.

70 min: Stam is peanalised for a robust challenge on Pauleta, presenting Portugal with a free-kick around 35 yards from the Holland goal. Deco is centre stage again.

69 min: Seedorf works himself a yard of space down the right but his cross in is way over those in the centre and Miguel can see it clear.

68 min: Ronaldo is the man replaced by Petit. It appears Portugal are happy with what they have.

67 min: Petit is ready to enter the fray for Portugal. As he strips off, Robben presses down the left but Miguel sees off the danger.

66 min: Deco sportingly kicks the ball out of play so van Nistelrooy can receive treatment after getting a knee in the ribs. He's back to his feet after a little treatment and play continues.

65 min: Seedorf curls a peach of a ball in from the left flank but van Bronckhorst is just inches away from converting at the back post.

64 min: Holland have been unsurprisingly lifted by the goal although Robben fails to get a cross in after breaking down the left.

63 min: OWN GOAL - ANDRADE. Almost out of nothing, a cross comes in from the Holland left towards van Nistelrooy. Andrade slides in in an attempt to clear but can only divert the ball over Ricardo and give Holland hope.

62 min: Deco gets a free-kick in the middle of the field as the Dutch just begin to lose their rag.

61 min: Seedorf gets space a couple of yards outside the Portugal box but his shot is always curling wide of Ricardo's left-hand post.

60 min: Again Portugal take it short but they have learnt their lesson and Robben is out quickly to close down Deco, albeit at the expense of a throw-in.

59 min: Figo is running riot now. This time he forces a corner off van Bronckhorst down the Portugal right.

58 min: GOAL - MANICHE. The corner is taken short to Maniche who has acres of space. He is a yard outside the angle of the box on the Portugal left when he looks up and curls the ball into the top right-hand corner of van der Sar's net. That is some goal.

58 min: Portugal put together a lovely move down the right and force a corner from Ronaldo's clip into the centre.

57 min: The corner is taken short to Figo who advances to the byline. He just knocks it too far, though, and it'll be a goal-kick to Holland.

56 min: Holland make their second change by bringing Rafael van der Vaart on for Bouma. Portugal force a corner down the right before the youngster has got in the game.

55 min: Corner to Holland down their right but the ball in is headed clear by Carvalho. It breaks back to Robben but his curling cross sails out of play over van Nistelrooy's head.

55 min: End to end stuff now. First Davids sends a shot sailing wide of the Portugal goal then Ricardo pumps the ball long finding Pauleta in space. He rifles in a shot which van der Sar saves comfortably. The Portugal striker really should have done better there.

54 min: Portugal hit Holland quickly on the break and Figo goes at van Bronckhorst. This time he tries to take on the Dutchman around the outside but his subsequent shot is horribly off target. Perhaps Figo should have tried to find Pauleta in the centre there.

53 min: Stam carries the ball out of defence but gifts the ball to Maniche. He powers forward but in turn gifts the ball back to Davids. The tackles fly in in midfield but Holland are still able to work it forward. Van Nistelrooy looks to have slid in Makaay until Ronaldo appears out of nowhere to clear down the left.

52 min: Robben does well to work himself a yard of space from Miguel and get a cross in. The ball is always sailing into Ricardo's arms but at least Robben is getting into the game for Holland.

51 min: Advocaat leaves the Dutch bench to protest to the referee for pulling play back for a Dutch free-kick rather than playing an advantage. The free-kick is pumped long towards Robben but he is unable to take it down and Portugal clear comfortably.

50 min: Deco clips the ball in from the right but Bouma is there first to clear. Pauleta had pulled him down in any case so it'll be Holland's free-kick inside their own six-yard box.

49 min: Reiziger flings the ball into the Portugal box but as it drops, Seedorf's shot is poor and is easily gathered by Ricardo.

48 min: Van Bronckhorst scythes down Figo in full flow and is lucky to escape a booking. The Portugal free-kick comes to nothing and Holland are able to break and force a throw deep in the Dutch half.

47 min: The ball is pumped into the box from deep but Ricardo is able to gather well.

46 min: Portugal force a corner within the first minute but van Nistelrooy is back well to head the ball clear at the front post. Makaay looks to push forward down the left but Miguel pulls him down. Free-kick to Holland.

45 min: Portugal get the game under way after the interval just 45 minutes away from a place in the final on home turf. Makaay looks to be lining up on the right for Holland though he will surely get forward to offer van Nistelrooy support through the middle.

45 min: Holland have made a change at the break with Roy Makaay replacing Overmars.

HT: Portugal 1 Holland 0.

45 min: Deco takes a prodigiously long run-up but can only strike his free-kick into the wall. As the ball breaks back to him, the referee blows the half-time whistle.

45 min: Free-kick to Portugal with Bouma penalised for a foul on Pauleta around 30 yards from the Holland goal centrally. Deco looks to be eyeing this one up.

45 min: Seedorf makes a terrible decision by leaping for a ball he could never have hoped to have reached. That leaves Maniche space on the edge of the Holland box down the right but his shot is way off target.

44 min: Robben curls the ball in but it is headed clear on the edge of the box. Figo looks to power down the left but he can only win a throw off van Bronckhorst.

44 min: Overmars goes down clutching his ankle after Nuno Valente trips him from behind. The man linked with Bolton this week is the third man into the book.

43 min: Ronaldo shows the defensive side of his game by tracking back with Davids and forcing the dreadlocked Holland midfielder to foul him just inside his own half.

42 min: Robben floats the free-kick in but it evades both the leaping Bouma and the diving Stam. The offside flag was up in any case.

42 min: Free-kick to Holland in a dangerous position 35 yards from the Portugal goal as van Nistelrooy is fouled.

41 min: Figo goes within inches of scoring a goal of the tournament contender. The Real Madrid man cuts inside onto his left foot just inside the Holland box and curls a shot in. Unfortunately for him, the ball strikes the post and bounces away.

40 min: Overmars gets a second reprimand from the referee after checking Maniche. The former Arsenal man must tread carefully from hereon in.

39 min: Overmars clips the ball through to Van Nistelrooy and he fires home past Ricardo. The assistant referee's flag is up for offside, though. Overmars races over to berate the assistant referee for what was actually a very good decision and is booked by Frisk.

38 min: Cocu clips the ball in towards van Nistelrooy from deep but he can't get it down with no support and Carvalho is able to shepherd it out for a goal-kick.

37 min: Holland's patchy first half is summed up as Seedorf beats a couple of Portuguese midfielders before sliding it to Overmars, who promptly gives it away.

36 min: A poor corner allows Holland to clear with van der Sar punching clear just seconds after his heroics from Pauleta's shot.

35 min: Deco chips a lovely ball forward to Maniche who has found acres of space behind the Dutch defence. He slides the ball in to Pauleta who also has found an unbelievable amount of space with the Dutch napping. The striker opts to shoot first time and van der Sar has to pull off a fine save diving to his left, conceding a corner in the process.

34 min: Van der Sar pumps the ball long but Ricardo is alert to the danger from Overmars and comes out of his area to head clear.

34 min: Figo, looking livelier by the minute, forces a corner down the right but his subsequent cross from Deco's short corner is gathered by van der Sar.

33 min: Holland build from midfield but Seedorf dwells on the ball for far too long and when Portugal block all his possible routes forward, he attempts to find Overmars but a poor ball floats out of play for a goal-kick.

32 min: The corner is punched clear by Ricardo and Portugal almost break on the counter-attack. The ball drops to Ronaldo but Overmars is back quickly and slides the ball back to van der Sar.

31 min: Davids again works himself a yard of space down the left where he is starting to get some joy. His curling ball in is headed behind by Andrade with Seedorf challenging him in the air.

30 min: Dick Advocaat is looking far from happy on the Holland bench - the marking at the corner was terrible and Ronaldo punished them with a powerful downward header.

29 min: Ronaldo slices an attempted clearance which Ricardo does well to keep in play.

28 min: Davids works himself a yard of space down the left after evading Miguel and floats in a fine cross. Cocu goes in with two Portugal defenders at the front post and the ball is diverted to Overmars at the back. He fires a shot over the crossbar when he should have done better.

27 min: Holland come forward and Cocu gets a flick to a long throw from Reiziger but Portugal are able to scramble the ball clear.

26 min: GOAL - RONALDO. The corner comes in from the left and Ronaldo climbs on the edge of the six-yard box to head home unmarked. Terrible marking from the Dutch and Ronaldo takes full advantage. Ronaldo wheels away to celebrate, removing his shirt in the process and referee Frisk books him for his celebration.

25 min: Ronaldo gets his full range of step-overs out to work a yard of space from Reiziger. The defender gets back well to concede a corner as Ronaldo looks to cross.

24 min: Holland probe down the right but with van Nistelrooy out there, they have no men in the middle. Portugal clear down the left and Figo bursts forward by outpacing Cocu. He gets the cross in but Pauleta can't divert it goalwards and Stam is able to clear.

23 min: Robben again appeals for a free-kick after colliding with Miguel. Yet again Frisk waves away his appeal for a free-kick as Ricardo pumps long. Figo has just strayed offside.

22 min: Portugal are unable to punish Reiziger's mistake as they take far too long to take the throw-in. Holland have men back in numbers and are able to press forwards themselves. Van Nistelrooy works himself a half-chance with a clever chip but Ricardo Carvalho is in quickly to head clear.

21 min: The tempo of the game drops with both sides giving away possession far too easily in midfield. Reiziger ends a disappointing passage of play by passing the ball straight out of play.

20 min: Ronaldo shows a clean pair of heels to Van Bronckhorst but Cocu reads the game superbly and is able to halt his progress with a strong tackle.

19 min: Reiziger presses forward down the Holland right but the ball from Cocu is intercepted and Portugal break down the vacant left flank. Figo gets to the byline and cuts it back for Ronaldo but the Manchester United winger can only find van der Sar with his grubber shot.

18 min: Robben berates the referee after going down under pressure from Miguel but the Chelsea man was not strong enough in the tackle and went down too easily for Mr Frisk's liking.

17 min: Robben shows a couple of neat tricks to get away from first Miguel and then Ronaldo. But he overplays by going back for a second attempt at beating Miguel and the defender is in quickly this time to win the ball back.

16 min: Figo is pulled up for pulling Michael Reiziger down just inside Holland's half. The Dutch again look long but Cocu's ball to Overmars is woeful and drifts straight out for a throw to Portugal deep in their own half.

15 min: Miguel dwells on possession too long and ends up passing it straight out down the right but he is back in quickly when the throw is taken and wins back possession for Portugal. The ball is moved out to the right where Ronaldo has now taken up station but the Manchester United man fails to keep it in play.

14 min: Robben hoists the ball long from the halfway line but it is an awful attempt at a pass and sails straight into the arms of Ricardo.

13 min: Nuno Valente tries to curl the ball forward to Pauleta but he overhits it and it sails out for a goal-kick.

12 min: Holland work the ball around patiently before springing forward. The ball is worked to Philip Cocu and he powers in a shot with his left foot. Ricardo coolly watches it slide past his left-hand post.

11 min: Deco goes down theatrically under pressure from Davids but referee Anders Frisk is not convinced and waves play on.

10 min: The corner is a poor one and Holland are able to break down the right with Overmars. He outpaces Nuno Valente and gets a cross in, but the ball is behind van Nistelrooy and Costinha is able to sweep it clear.

10 min: Portugal work the ball down the right where Figo is after swapping wings with Ronaldo. He goes at van Bronckhorst and drills a teasing cross in. Ronaldo is just inches away from connecting in the six-yard box and Jaap Stam has to sweep it behind for a corner.

9 min: Pauleta is just caught offside as he tries to latch onto a ball over the top from Jorge Andrade. The ball is pumped long by Holland but Andrade is there to head clear.

8 min: Ricardo comes to the edge of his six-yard box to clutch a Clarence Seedorf cross from the left to his chest.

7 min: Maniche receives treatment for a shin injury but does look fit to continue despite having to leave the pitch initially. Van Nistelrooy is able to stay on as he did not receive treatment.

7 min: The ball is whacked out of play by Bouma with both Maniche and van Nistelrooy down after seperate incidents.

6 min: A lovely ball from deep gives Pauleta a yard of space just outside the Dutch box. He works the ball back to Deco who takes a couple of touches before curling the ball over. Pauleta is there but can't connect with his head. Edwin van der Sar plunges to his left and gathers the ball at the second attempt.

5 min: Good link-up play from van Nistelrooy sets Overmars free down the right but his ball just evades Edgar Davids in the Portugal penalty area and the hosts are able to scramble it clear.

4 min: Pauleta gets a yard of space from Bouma but can't lay the ball back to Maniche and Giovanni van Bronckhorst is able to get his foot in and pump the ball downfield.

3 min: The throw comes to nothing and Holland are able to break down the left. Robben is looking lively until Miguel nicks in to take the ball back and slide it forward to Luis Figo. The attack comes to nothing as both sides show some early nerves.

2 min: Cristiano Ronaldo gets his first touch of the game out on the Portugal left and he helps Deco to win a throw deep in Dutch territory.

1 min: The first free-kick of the game goes the way of Portugal with Ruud van Nistelrooy caught offside just inside the hosts' half. They press forward and earn another free-kick, this one 10 yards inside the Portugal half.

0 min: Holland get the game under way and immediately work the ball back to their centre-backs before pumping it long. Arjen Robben is beaten in the air and Portugal get the ball down.

Pre-match: Portugal have made just one change from the side which beat England six days ago with Pauleta returning from suspension in place of Nuno Gomes. Both Helder Postiga and Rui Costa, the goalscorers against England, start on the bench again. Wilfred Bouma comes in for the Dutch, filling in for the injured Frank de Boer, while coach Dick Advocaat makes a tactical change with Marc Overmars coming in for Andy van der Meyde.
