Huge underdogs Greece sent holders France crashing out of Euro 2004 after a shock 1-0 quarter-final victory in Lisbon.
Angelos Charisteas proved to be the Greek hero heading home midway through the second half of a largely dull encounter.
Kostas Katsoruanis hit the inside of the post and Panagiotis Fyssas had a stunning volley tipped over as Greece dominated a goalless first half.
France stepped up a gear after the break but were caught out on 65 minutes when Theo Zagorakis skinned Bixente Lizarazu and lofted the perfect centre which Christeas buried with a bullet header.
France brought on Louis Saha and Sylvain Wiltord and poured forward but Thierry Henry and Saha shot straight at the keeper after working themselves into ideal scoring positions and the champions were out.
After the game, goalscorer Charisteas hailed the significance of Greece's achievement.
"We have deserved to be where we now are. Now everything is possible," he told Greek TV station ET1.
"We have a very good team.
"For me, our qualification for the semi-finals is the greatest moment in Greek football history.
"Every Greek, wherever they are, must feel proud, smile to themselves and rejoice in this victory."
