Jonathan Reis' goal was enough for PSV to extend their lead in Europa League Group K with a 1-0 win over FC Copenhagen.

Reis had earlier seen a penalty saved by goalkeeper Johan Wiland, but was on the mark in the second half to help his side to seven points, three clear of second-placed Sparta Prague.

Fred Rutten's men had won their previous home game against CFR Cluj after an opening draw away to Sparta, but were made to work hard for opportunities throughout against the second-placed team in Denmark's SAS Liga.

Balazs Dzsudzsak blazed an ambitious early free-kick over the bar after Mikael Antonsson's foul on Reis, and the next chance also fell to the Hungary international.

Following a corner which caused problems for the visitors' defence, Dszudszak fired straight at Wiland from the left of the penalty area.

Copenhagen broke and Atiba Hutchinson forced PSV goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson into his only action of the first half.

The most significant pre-interval drama, though, came shortly after the half-hour as Reis drew another foul from Antonsson.

Referee Alan Kelly pointed to the penalty spot and booked the defender, allowing Reis the chance to break the stalemate, but the Brazilian's low drive was parried by Wiland to ensure the scores remained level at half-time.

Copenhagen's former Ajax winger Jesper Gronkjaer sought to put one over on his old rivals but saw a long-range drive held by Isaksson.

Reis was again well denied by Wiland, the Swede parrying his close-range effort.

But the striker got the reward for his persistence when he met Dszudszak's left-wing cross and finished high into the net from within the six-yard box to give the hosts a 72nd-minute lead.

Copenhagen boss Stale Solbakken quickly threw on strikers Cesar Santin and Ailton Almeida and midfielder Martin Vingaard in a triple substitution as he sought a way to level the match and keep up his side's good record in Holland, which saw them beat Ajax in both 2003 and 2006.

Vingaard tested Isaksson with a 25-yard drive, but Santin's injury-time effort was also held by the Sweden international as PSV eased home.
