FA CUP FINAL PLAYER RATINGS

By Mike McGrath, PA Sport

CHELSEA

Petr Cech: Not called into action much but tidy goalkeeping when required: 6

Paulo Ferreira: Looked troubled by Ronaldo but his countryman did not inflict damage. 6

Wayne Bridge: Did not do anything wrong but struggled to support in attack. 6

John Terry: Important interceptions while leading the Chelsea defence. 7

Michael Essien: Out of position again due to injuries elsewhere, got back to stop Giggs in a promising position in the second half. 6

Claude Makelele: Offered his defence good protection and allowed his midfield team-mates to go forward. 6

Mikel John Obi: Looked good on the ball but failed to unlock the United defence. 5

Frank Lampard: Decent efforts on goal in the first half, kept himself busy in a scrappy final. 6

Shaun Wright-Phillips: Looked good at times but his final delivery lacked quality. 6

Joe Cole: One of the more exciting players in the first half before being substituted at the interval. 6

Didier Drogba: Toiled in attack on his own and struggled for support but kept his cool for the goal. 7

Substitutes

Arjen Robben (on for Cole, 46): Looked exciting when he came on but not enough dangerous crosses. 6

Salomon Kalou (on for Wright-Phillips, 93): Looked lively when he came on. 6

Ashley Cole (on for Robben, 108): Little time to make an impact. 5

MANCHESTER UNITED

Edwin van der Sar: Decent save in first half, almost embarrassed by Drogba's free-kick after the interval. 5

Wes Brown: Indecisive early on but made up for it with strong tackling later. 6

Gabriel Heinze: Passing and clearances were sometimes rushed. Typical no-nonsense defending from the full-back. 5

Nemanja Vidic: Read game well and made important interceptions and tackles. 7

Rio Ferdinand: Decent distribution and positioning. 6

Michael Carrick: Good range of passing but not always accurate. 6

Paul Scholes: Set the pace for United with his passing and was at the heart of their better moves. 7

Ryan Giggs: Frustrating day. Saw plenty of the ball but often found two Chelsea defenders on him. 6

Darren Fletcher: Struggled to impose himself on the game in a crowded midfield. 5

Cristiano Ronaldo: Quiet by his standards despite looking to have the beating of Ferreira with his pace. 5

Wayne Rooney: Tried his best to take the game to Chelsea with exciting runs from deep. 7

Substitutes

Alan Smith (on for Fletcher, 92): Offered support to United's attack. 6

John O'Shea (on for Carrick, 112): On too late to make a difference. 5

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (on for Giggs, 112): No heroics off the bench this time. 5
